Volume XXVII Issue # 08 Aug. 28, 2006 Too many churchgoers are singing “Standing on the Promises” when all they are doing is sitting on the premises. Our meeting today was at the Great Hall of the Ripon College Memorial Union. Greeted by Todd Goheen, who also rendered prayer. Our President, Lee Prellwitz, at the podium. Special Guests were Andrew and Laura Kegler, host parents of our new inbounder, Daniel from Taiwan. Guests of Sue Finch Brown. (1) President Lee asked all present to stand and introduce themselves. (a) It gave this writer a proud feeling to have 24 Rotarians stand. I feel we greatly outnumbered the other Service Clubs.!! Sgt. at Arms—President Lee dispensed with Rick Coles folly and warned all to beware on our next meeting. Program: Lynn Corder first introduced President David Joyce of Ripon College, now in his 3rd year at Ripon, or as a Southerner deftly put it, going into the 4th. winter. The college was founded in 1851 and in its first graduation class there were 4 women. He stressed the College’s Mission – Make a difference in the lives of students. Get a life and be able to change the world through the Science, Arts, and Humanities. Things underway at the campus: Apartment style residence hall, 100 more students, remodeling of Todd Wehr Hall, increase the endowment to 100 million dollars. Part of the community – The President office now in the old Carnege Library on corner of Seward & Watson Street. Lynn, then introduced 4th year Ripon College student, Liz Leach of Pickett, WI. Liz is a Communication Major, who aptly described how she chose Ripon College. When a 4th grade student, she attended the Advanced College experience and after High School, visited other colleges and chose Ripon. She loves Ripon and hopes to return somehow in the future. Lynn, then introduced Kate Hersey – Director of Community Engagement and Bonner program Coordinator, who explained the program provides a unified framework for community outreach and service activities. Lynn then introduced Adam Clark – a senior at the college, who spoke on the Fraternal Derby Days Fund Raiser –proceeds to go to the Children’s Miracle Network founded in 1973. The Fundraiser Benefit Dinner to be held at Big Stella’s, featuring Pizza and Cheesecake. $15.00 a person or 2 for $25. Tickets at Ripon Drug, State Farm Insurance, and Big Stella’s. Those who wished to go on Tour (guided) of the campus, were then on their way. Thanks Lynn and Ripon College, for the fine program. No meeting next Monday - Labor Day Next meeting at Royal Ridges, Monday September 11 Greeter and Prayer – Chuck Larson Program – Todd Goheen, in charge of. Thought for today: Dear Lord – grant me understanding and patience with those who seem hard to love. Help me accept them as You have accepted me. Amen.
