Program: Gary Born ( standing in for Armon, who was attending the funeral of Erv Beilke) introduced his wife, Julie, who gave a most interesting and informative power point on her experience on a Japan Fulbright Memorial Scholarship, November 12-30, 2006. The group studied Japanese Schools and culture. The Japanese kids not doing well can go to private cram schools but must pay to do so. Bullying is becoming a problem in the schools and has led to suicides by the victims. The kids have classes of 40 students and are taught to solve their own problems with help of fellow students before they seek help from the teachers. The kids also serve lunches and clean their schools, even the restrooms. They take off their shoes and put on special slippers in school. Culturally, Julie ate lots of blow-fish but couldn’t eat the guts!! I wouldn’t either. The Japanese honored these visiting American teachers, almost as Royalty and would like to send people to America to study our ways. Thanks, Julie and Gary, and Happy 29th Anniversary yesterday!! Next Week – Greeter & Prayer – Todd Goheen Program – Lynn Corder and her trip to Vietnam Installation of Tom Huber and Catherine Sewall Report of Dr. Blake Waterhouse on Ripon Rotary Charitable Foundation. Thought for today: Lord – I tend to take the services that are performed for me for granted. Help me to remember to say “Thank You” often to the trash pickup person, the paper carrier, the bus driver and to all the others who make my life easier. Amen To get back on your feet, miss two car payments. Scribe – Rich Carley – 748-3391 |
