June 2, 2008 - Rotary Bulletin - The Meeting of Substitutes

This noon we were welcomed by Lee Baird who also led a very well-attended meeting group in prayer.

Our meeting was conducted by Gary Born, President Elect, substitute for President Lee Prellwitz.

Guests:

  • Anna White – outbounder for Thailand
  • Janira Romero – inbounder from Spain
  • Kira Fritsch – daughter of Rev. Bryan Fritsch and recipient of a Rotary Scholarship
  • Rev. Jack Kraaz from the First Congregational Church

Carol Lam sent a Thank You note for the Rotary Scholarship that she received.

Nita Krenz passed out nine Polio Plus quarter boxes.
Any donations made prior to June 30th will net $3 for every $1 given thanks to Rotary International and the Gates Foundation.  We already have $95 in member donations to Polio Plus.  Checks can be made payable to Rotary International and can be given to Kathy Schwandt, Lee Prellwitz, or Nita Krenz.

Mark your calendars:

  • Joint board meeting on Monday June 23rd
  • Changing of the Guard Dinner on June 30th
  • Berlin/Ripon Rotary Golf Outing on July 23rd

Rev. Jack Kraaz from the First Congregational Church presented checks totaling $11,686.00 to the Ripon Rotary Charitable Foundation for the Fr. Wally Dam & Reservoir fundraiser. He and his congregation raised this money from donations, a Wally Walk, and luncheon. This is a HUGH contribution and is extremely appreciation. Thank you!

Chuck Larson, substitute for Rick Coles - Sgt at Arms, quizzed us on the History of 1937.

Gary Born, substitute  for Dr. LeRoy Yeomans introduced our program, Dr. Mark Edinger. Mark presented the Anti Inflammatory Diet, a diet to keep us healthy, ward off many serious health conditions and keep our backs feeling great. Thanks Dr. LeRoy & Dr. Mark for this interesting presentation. Here’s the key:

  • Good Omega 3 foods are:

1.       Fruits & vegetables

2.       Fish & lean meats (grass fed or wild game)

3.       Omega 3 eggs

4.       Raw nuts

5.       Spices

6.       Olive oil, coconut oil, butter and canola oil

7.       Water, green tea, red wine & stout beer

8.       Dark chocolate

  • Take these supplements:

1.       Multi Vitamin w/o iron

2.       Magnesium – 400 to 1000 mg

3.       EPA/DHA – from fish oil – 1 to 3 grams

4.       Vitamin D3 – 1000 to 10,000 IU/day
