Her presentation today was on her experience in Morocco while serving with there for 4 months and last summer again. She described it as a socially liberal country, the farthest west you can go in the Arab world. The French influence is obviously there but the people want more Arabization. The schools are dominantly French. 3 prominent languages, French, Official Arabic & Moroccan Arabic, plus Berber. The Berbers were the first in Africa. She showed a Moroccan toy ( a small train with President Bush firing a weapon, chasing an Arab. Also a set of dolls, similar to our Barbie, only in Moroccan clothes. In rural Morocco, only 11% of women can read. Thanks Lyn & Valerie for this most interesting program. Nominations for Ripon rotary’s 2008 Paul Harris Fellow must be in to Tom Worrall by this Friday, May 9. All Club Members are eligible to nominate someone. Thought for today: God – thank you for Your loving care; for shelter, food, family and friends. Watch over me and my loved ones today. Protect us and keep us close to Your Heart. Amen If at first you don’t succeed, deny you were even trying. Scribe: Rich Carley, 748-3391 |
