Sergeant at Arms Rick Coles with a ranking requirement for the six most “profitable” holidays. After informing us that Halloween was “one of the most profitable holidays” it turned out that Halloween was sixth of the six listed. A strategy that I have been known to employ myself. Everybody paid one dollar.

Program: Armon Fischer introduced Fire Lieutenant Tom Nelson from the Ripon Fire Department. Lieutenant Nelson is the only full time employee of the fire department, and provided information on the make-up of the Ripon Fire Department, the equipment the department has, and an overview of the education and public services provided, the training required of members, and the inspections done twice annually of all businesses in Ripon. He also touched briefly on the Ripon Fire District, and the current issues confronting the district with the defections of the Town of Green Lake and, in the past two weeks, the Town of Metomen.

Per Lieutenant Nelson, the three major issues facing the future of the Ripon Fire Department are:

  1. More difficult to attract volunteers, due to the commitment and training involved.
  2. Fewer employers willing to allow volunteers to leave work to answer calls.
  3. An aging demographic among the members.

Food for thought for the future of the RFD. Thanks to Lieutenant Nelson and Armon for this informative program.

Next Week: November 6:         Greeter and Prayer – the returning Dr. Richard Carley

                                                Program – Tommy Hobbs

Thought for the Day – The income tax has made liars out of more Americans than golf.

                                                                        - Will Rogers

Substitute Scribe – Lee Prellwitz
