In May of 1994, a Rotary crew of volunteers planted 21 trees in Ceresco Park to replace shade trees destroyed by the tornado which struck Ripon a year earlier. Jim Bartz supervised the operation and provided a forklift to move the trees, six to eight feet tall, balled and burlapped, with an earth ball about 30 inches in diameter. A year earlier marked the completion of another Rotary planting project which Jim Bartz initiated - the Ripon High School Arboretum. The Rotary Club funded this project and planted the trees and scrubs. In 1996, following the tornado that literally destroyed nearly every tree in the nearby city of Oakfield, Ripon Rotary made a donation of $500 to purchase and deliver replacement trees to the city. |
