The need for recreational facilities which encourage wholesome outdoor recreation for Ripon's young people is widely recognized. Ripon Rotary has long been committed to helping satisfy this need. Ripon is situated in a climate ideal for outdoor winter sports including ice skating, but attempts over the years by the city and private groups to provide adequate facilities always seemed to fall short of the mark. The Mill Pond, when swept free of snow, afforded a reasonably good skating surface, but there was also a need for a shelter in which to change shoes and gain some protection from the biting Wisconsin cold. Rotary moved to satisfy that need by construction an 8 X 20 foot warming house which was put into service at Selfridge Park in December of 1976. This cost to the club was $695.00 |
