We want to welcome our newest members, Dani Moore and Vicky Strobel! I hope you have had a chance to meet them!
URGENT NEWS! July 17 from 4-8pm at Vines and Rushes, Green Lake Rotary is having a fundraiser and three different raffles - please support a fellow local club that has supported us! :-)
July 26 - meet at EAA...and July 27 volunteer opportunity!
We have been invited to the EAA grounds in Oshkosh to participate in their international Rotary meeting. This is a great way to meet other Rotarians and hear about their countries/clubs from around the world! The event is at noon and the cost is $20 for the meeting and lunch. There is free close parking and directions are included in the link below. We will not have a Ripon Rotary meeting at Aroma's that day. https://www.oshkoshrotarysouthwest.org/event-info/flying-rotarians-picnic
Also, we have learned that there is a volunteer opportunity if you just can't get enough of planes and pilots! On July 27 is a fundraiser for the Young Eagles program and table hosts are needed from 4:30 - 9:30pm. If you are interested (and 21 or older), please register at the below link by 7/15: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfc6tSNexpOr49mvz1OK8tMmklfXHo97F1NzhCr5HRu6bKaKg/viewform
Downsizing...we're not talking about moving into a Shelter Box tent (see more about that below)! Just about removing some of the items from your life that may no longer have meaning or clearing things out that your family members may have no interest in owning.
We had a great presentation by Cathylee Arbaugh on this subject at one of our recent meetings. For example, if you are using your treadmill for a clothes hanger - maybe it needs to find a new home or maybe you may want to bring it back to it's original purpose by signing up for the Green Lake 13.1 race! https://runsignup.com/Race/WI/GreenLake/GreenLakeHalfMarathon5K10K2020
If you would like a copy of Cathylee's handout from the presentation, please email me at: kellymun91@yahoo.com
Just Horsing Around
Nita Krenz is meeting "Fancy," a horse from Kim Bond's group of miniture therapy horses. Kim and her mom, Linda (in the photo), bring their therapy horses to meet people at many places including libraries and schools. Kim has also authored a childrens book! We enjoyed meeting them at a May Rotary meeting.
We had many volunteers helping with the RC2 race in May. This race incorporates Ripon College as well as community helpers to make this race possible. It is a way for our club to raise funds by participating in many areas - the parking lot, road crossings (Kevin in photo at left), water stations, and more!
Ripon Rotary donated towards the Shelter Box project. This effort helps bring temporary housing and other assistance around the world. We inspired Our Saviour's Church in Ripon to do a "Tents for Lent" donation. Their members donated $6,000 and the church matched it.
Some contents that are sent along with the shelter.
Sometimes mosquito nets are an integral part of the shelter.
Partnering with local service groups
Jeff Puhlmann-Becker came to speak to us about a project that was part of the Ripon Area United Way and is being spun off due to the merger of that group with the Fond du Lac United Way. The project is the Imagination Library which has given out books to local Ripon children ages 0 to 5 for the past decade plus. We are considering partnering with the two local Kiwanis clubs and the cost would be around $2,000 a year. We would love to hear your thoughts on this idea!
